Our group was established over 10 years ago by our founder, Sara (aka Cupcake) along with two friends Jane and Esme, who is now a Solicitor working in the field of Family Law with a specialism in domestic abuse.
Due to changes in local commissioned services, Moving Forward was paused in 2019 but came back bigger and stronger in April 2022 when Sara approached 2 former colleagues from the domestic abuse sector saying,
“Hey girls, I reckon there’s a real need for this service - what do you think?”
The rest as they say, is history!
With nearly 40 years of combined experience working in the sector and personal experience of domestic abuse, we (Lucy, Kerry and Sara) work hard to ensure that Moving Forward really is possible after abuse.
We have created a truly safe and welcoming haven, where you can begin to heal and thrive.

We are a Lincoln (UK) based community group but we welcome those who live further afield.
We know that trying to find someone to listen, let alone understand what you've been through, and the impact it's had, is a struggle.
We want you to know that you are not alone.
We are here and will do what we can to help.
Your support and contributions will enable us to provide our vital support to more women in Lincoln and surrounding areas who've escaped abuse. Your generous donation will help us to cover costs and overheads, empowering us to move forward in our mission.

Domestic Abuse does not discriminate.
Anyone can be a victim of Domestic Abuse, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic status, sexuality or background.
Many of us don’t even realise that we’ve experienced abuse until we’re out of the relationship.
The common theme is that “no one understands my feelings and experiences unless they have been through it themselves”.
This is isolating in itself and can lead to us closing down or not seeking support.
Often, reaching out can require being retraumatised. Having to relive the past to try and get justice or help.

We never ask anyone to disclose what has happened, we simply provide the support that is needed.

We have created a safe environment that empowers women who have experienced historic domestic abuse to move forward with their lives.
Connecting people who have shared experiences and creating powerful and meaningful interactions, friendships and positive “life changing” impact.
We have close links with other organisations that can help too - lots of women have gone on to gain additional support through these channels.
There is very little support for women living with the life long and often devastating impact of domestic abuse once they are no longer seen as being in crisis.
One of the things you will NEVER hear in our groups!
There are many, very real obstacles to escaping from someone who has set out to control you. At Moving Forward, we understand this, and will never judge.
You will always receive compassion and understanding here.
“It's a great place to feel safe and understood at a time when everyone else is giving up on you and blaming you.”
